Triumph TR7,TR8 Door Lamp Fitting Notes
- We have resourced a lamp that closely matches the appearance of the original (black surround type) but requires some minor modification of the door trim panel and wiring to fit. To fit the lamp, it will be necessary to widen the aperture in the trim panel by approx. 1mm on either side. This is easily accomplished with a sharp knife. Electrically, it will be necessary to replace the locking black spade connectors on the door harness with insulated spade connectors. We have sourced the correct one piece connector, but the vendor wants us to purchase an unreasonably large quantity.
- The original door lamp specification (as per the owners handbook) calls for the lamp to operate as follows: "With the lens flush, the lamp is off. With the lens tilted up the lamp is switched on. With the lens tilted down the lamps operate when a door is opened."
- The latest lamp specification has some operational differences which we believe are superior: Instead of being off in the neutral (flush) position, the new style lamp will light with the lens flush and a door opened. When the doors are closed, the map light function is activated by tilting the lens either up or down. Thus, it is a matter of owner preference as to whether the lamp lights in the up or down (but not both) directions depending upon whether the lamp is installed with the connector facing the front or rear of the car.
